 KABC-TV: New drugs prolong skin cancer patients' lives



LOS ANGELES, June 6, 2011 — Two drugs -- vemurafenib and Yervoy -- are prolonging the lives of patients with advanced melanoma, and represent a major breakthrough in the treatment of the deadly skin cancer, according to researchers who presented their findings at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting in Chicago.


KABC-TV’s Health Specialist Denise Dador interviewed City of Hope surgical oncologist Vijay Trisal, M.D., about these promising drugs. Dr. Trisal is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Committee that helps formulate guidelines for the treatment of melanoma. (He was not involved in these studies.)
