After checking that City of Hope treats your cancer or other diagnosis, you can contact New Patient Services by calling 800-826-HOPE (4673) or by completing the online request form to begin the process. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is the federal government’s principal agency for cancer research and training. In recognition of our broad scope of cancer research and training, City of Hope has earned the highest distinction of Comprehensive Cancer Center – one of only 40 elite facilities throughout the country. In addition, City of Hope has been designated by U.S. News & World Report as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” in cancer and urology. Clinical trial research is designed for a variety of different clinical objectives, ranging from disease prevention to quality of life, in both adults and children.
- Disease prevention: test new approaches to prevent diseases in people who have never had the disease or to prevent it from coming back in people who have already had the disease.
- Disease screening and detection: test new approaches to find a disease in its earliest stage, optimizing the potential success of the treatment.
- Disease treatment: test new treatments such as a new drug, new approaches to surgery or radiation therapy, new combinations of treatments or a new treatment method.
- Symptom management: test new treatment approaches to reduce the side effects from primary treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery.
- Quality of life: explore ways to define and measure the patient’s experiences during and after treatment, such as psychosocial problems, daily functioning and pain management.
You can submit the “Becoming a Patient Request Form” on behalf of a family member or friend. However, you must do so with their knowledge and consent. City of Hope cannot contact a patient who is referred by a friend or family member, if the patient is not aware that a request has been submitted on their behalf. City of Hope contracts with most major Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) for hospital services.
